Life is unpredictable and often times we are mentally thrown for a loop. Below, there are 5 tips for channeling your inner creative in times of distress.
1. Stop and Breathe
First and foremost, you are only human. You must allow yourself the time and space to process the situation at hand and grieve if necessary. If you have experienced a death in the family, speak with your supervisor or boss and ask if you can take a few days off. Your mental health is of the utmost importance.
2. Power of Positive Thinking
Uplift yourself and shift your current way of thinking. Be specific about the music you listen to, the individuals you surround yourself with, the movies or television you watch, etc. Surround yourself with positive energy and good vibes!
3. Pick Up a Creative Hobby
Throw yourself into a random hobby to distract one’s mind or to channel the pain and anguish. If you always wanted to learn to cross stitch or throw pottery, now is the time. Find creativity in outlets you normally wouldn’t or didn’t have the time for in the past and create it.
4. Collaborate With Other Creatives
Nothing promotes creativity better than having another individual as a soundboard. Pull inspiration from one another to create something amazing! Your ideas have the opportunity to blossom and transform when you have another individual contributing to the work at hand.
5. Practice Gratitude
In times of sorrow, it is easier to forget about all the things in life you have to be grateful for. Set time aside in each day or in the moments when your heart feels heavy, to appreciate what you do have in life. If you are currently mourning the death of a loved one, reflect on the good times you experienced and be appreciative of the moments you got to share. Revel in the love of life.
